*Age breakdowns are a general guideline. Dancers can either be placed according to age or level. Hence the “or” designation above. Dancers may be switched to the appropriate audition based on skill level at the discretion of the CDC Competition Staff. Some dancers may be asked to audition for two difference age groups or levels to see where their best fit might be. If you have any questions regarding which age/level to audition for, please contact your instructor or email Miss Jana at: Jana@CarlsbadDanceCentre.com
At Carlsbad Dance Centre, we view competition as great learning experience, using dance as the vehicle to deliver invaluable life lessons. Our approach is not based on just winning awards (of course everyone loves to win!) but much, much more. Team members learn to participate in something bigger than themselves. They are accountable not only to themselves but to their teammates and instructors. They learn the values of confidence, discipline, sportsmanship, goal-setting and the satisfaction of achievement through hard work. These experiences will translate directly into other parts of their lives, now and well after dance is done.
In addition to the benefits of personal growth, being a part of a competition team is also a chance to meet new friends! Competition team memories are the best, most indelible memories! Whether it’s studio rehearsals or traveling together, performing on stage or just hanging out in the dressing room; the friendships made with teammates are priceless. They will also meet dancers from other dance studios at competitions and conventions. This broadens their horizons, provides inspiration and many more growth opportunities. As a “competition” dancer it can also be an excellent reminder that other talented dancers are out there, with similar goals, working hard to be their best! Yes, being a member of the CDC Competition Team requires a higher level of commitment from both dancer and the parent, but the benefits are worth it!
