COMPETITION SHOWCASE

Sunday, February 24th, 2019
El Camino High School
Truax Theater
SHOWTIMES: 11:00am & 5:00pm

Instructions & Guidelines

All CDC Competition Team members are required to participate in the Showcase. The purpose of the show is to give team members an opportunity to perform their competition dances on stage before the first competition, as well as, share with friends and family at a local venue. Although the Showcase will be a Carlsbad Dance Centre Production, the Booster Club will be playing a huge role in the organization of the event. The competition staff is extremely excited to share their dances with you and your family and friends. We’re looking forward to a great show!

GENERAL INFORMATION

All duos, trios and groups will perform in both shows. Our high school seniors will also perform their solos in the Showcase. We will not be rehearsing every dance for the Showcase. All dances with props will need to block their number on stage before the start of the 11:00am show. (Please see blocking schedule for dances)

The Competition Showcase is a show which means that all costumes must be altered and prepared accordingly. Dancers need to treat both shows equally, meaning the first show is not a dress rehearsal; it is a show that people paid money to see.

HAIR REQUIREMENTS

We are keeping the Hair styles for each routine consistent.
- ALL Routines: Middle Part, Low Pony (If a dance requires a hat/wig, please check with your teacher)

*There are plenty of parents and older Dancers who can assist with hair, so reach out to your fellow team mates if you're unsure of the process!

CALL TIMES FOR DANCERS

8:30 am - Dancers with routines being blocked on stage (Dancers CANNOT be late for this!!)
9:30am - Dancers with no routines being blocked on stage.

All team members should report to the El Camino High School Truax Theater dressing room by their designated time. Hair, make-up and eyelashes should already be done (no eyelashes for Petite's). Dancers will need to settle into the dressing room and immediately begin their warm up. It will be very important for the dancers to eat a healthy breakfast, as they will not have a chance to eat a meal until around 1:30pm.

DRESSING ROOMS

All female dancers will be changing in the choir room at El Camino High School. It is a large room located just behind the stage. (Dancers do not need to go outside to get from choir room to the stage.) The choir room has various supplies for the school but will be pushed to the outer ends of the room for our event. Male dancers will use the band room for changing. We will set up a pipe n drape.  Be advised that we are not to touch anything that doesn’t belong to us.

Please be courteous and thoughtful when setting up your area in the dressing room. We will not have room for EVERYONE to have a garment rack. It is highly suggested you find a team member to share with. Other items to bring: make-up, brush, safety pins, bobby pins, hair gel, small mirror, water bottles (2-3).

DANCER CHECK IN / RELEASE TIMES

Every team member must check in and check out before and after each show. Every team member must stay backstage for the entire performance. (Exception is dancers who only dance in the 1st half, which can check-out at Intermission). Dancers will need to stay backstage during the 15 minute intermission. This will give them the opportunity to organize their belongings for the second half of the show.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers will be needed in the following areas: Concessions, Ushers, Dressing Rooms, Front of House and Ticket Booth. One parent from each family is expected to volunteer their services for one entire show and enjoy the other show from the audience. All dressing room volunteers are expected to take as much pride in helping other children as they would their own.

The Booster Club can assist you with any questions regarding signing up to volunteer. They are using the online program, Sign Up Genius, this year for everyone’s convenience. Volunteers are expected to work an entire performance (11:00am or 5:00pm). Please email cdcboosterclub@gmail.com with any questions regarding volunteer instructions. Siblings that are not performing in the show or friends of performers will NOT be allowed backstage.

LOBBY LAYOUT

The Booster Club will be hosting a concession stand at intermission. Please be advised that food/drink (beside water) is NOT allowed inside the theater or dressing room. Other exciting options are: 1 - Gift Basket Raffle, 2 - Dancer Grams (special messages to send to the dancers), & 3 - Flowers (For purchase).

PHOTOGRAPHY

For the safety of the dancers and as a courtesy to those viewing in the audience, flash photography is not allowed at the performances. You may, however, take pictures without a flash, just be sure you are not obstructing anyone’s view.
