Entertainment has always been a big part of Jana’s life. As the youngest of six children and daughter to a musician father, she naturally fell in love with music and being the center of attention. Jana’s parents owned and operated a professional recording studio and performers such as Crosby, Stills & Nash and Frankie Lane were regular visitors to Jana’s childhood home. There were always inspirations and opportunities for Jana to perform, even if it was on the fireplace hearth.

At the age of six Jana found her real inspiration in dance teacher Bonnie Ratzin. Bonnie taught dance classes at the YMCA in San Diego where Jana took gymnastic lessons. So enamored with Miss Bonnie, Jana would sneak out of her gymnastics lessons to watch dance class. After learning that Miss Bonnie not only lived nearby but also taught dance out of her home, Jana’s mom signed her up. One dance class led to two dance classes, two led to three; well you know how that works! Pretty soon Jana was dancing everyday studying: ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre as well as gymnastics.

As a Bonnie Ratzin Dancer for twelve years, Jana participated in countless local and national competitions as both a performer and instructor. Some of her more memorable performances include the 1988 Super Bowl, 1988 Rose Bowl, the Leukemia Foundation Telethon, the “Big Ten” Kickoff Party, and industrial videos for the Yamaha Corporation. She began teaching dance at the age of fifteen, while continuing to be active on her school’s ASB, cheer, gymnastics team and drama club.

After graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1988, she continued her studies at Grossmont Community College. It was here in the Speech Communication department that she met a handsome and charming young man named Ron Romaine. Jana received her A.A. degree from Grossmont College and moved on to San Diego State University where she earned her B.A. in Speech Communication. After her graduation in 1993, Ron popped the question, on stage, in front of 1,500 people during a dance recital. They married soon after and the adventure began!
