Inspired by his Mother who taught him the “Snake” and the “Reebok”, Efren knew at a very young age that hip-hop culture was going to be a part of his life. He grew up learning the basics of hip-hop dance, always striving to learn new techniques. As a young boy Efren never attended formal dance classes, instead he looked to the older neighborhood kids as his dance mentors. This raw form of learning gave Efren a real understanding of what “hip-hop” means at its roots. Performing quickly became a major part of Efren’s life.

In addition to performances at the world-renowned Legoland theme park, Efren has also danced in their TV commercials. Because hip-hop is a dance style where moves & methods develop, change and disappear at an incredibly rapid pace, Efren often travels to San Francisco or Los Angeles to attend clinics like the “Monsters of Hip-Hop” and train under some of the industry giants. He’s taken master classes from hip-hop greats like Chris Judd; a featured dancer on many Jennifer Lopez tours & videos and Jorge Santos; a dancer that performs with Christina Aguilera. Efren also studied and trained with the legendary Wade Robson, who has choreographed and worked with every big name in the music & entertainment business.

In 2003, Efren came the Carlsbad Dance Centre, at first he worked as a substitute instructor but quickly developed his own classes and was an instant hit with both students and staff. Efren puts all of his skills, training and enthusiasm into his teaching as well as his regular performances with hip-hop groups throughout San Diego and Los Angeles.

Efren continues to learn and grow as a dancer & instructor and is honored to share his passion for dance with the Carlsbad Dance Centre family. He wants all his students to remember; “Dance to Inspire not to Impress.” Efren sends his family a very special “Thank you” to for their patience, understanding and unconditional love.
